Cowley Road Matters - East Oxford Action

In 2003 the Department for Transport awarded Oxfordshire County Council 1 million pounds to improve the safety and environment of the Cowley Rd. Cowley Rd is a busy arterial route with lots of buses and shops. The question the DfT wanted to know was can a busy road and a community both exist at the same time? They wanted innovative ideas to make a good environment where people, buses, cyclist, cars and shops could all work well together, safely. East Oxford Action have been working in East Oxford for several years as a community run social enterprise scheme.

“We use the video all the time! It’s fantastic! It’s our main marketing tool and we also use it for training purposes. We show it to everyone from the local authority to planning students. People love it. Its color and dynamism brilliantly convey the ethos of our project.”

- Clare Symonds, Community Participation Officer, East Oxford Action

Mapping Matters - East Oxford Action

Mapping Matters is a consultation process. We use maps and other techniques to raise awareness of local issues and resources. Our aim is to increase community involvement in decision making. We made this video to explain about the techniques and methods we’ve used so that people can use them themselves, copy them or adapt them to whatever their needs might be. www.eastoxford.com/projects/mappingmatters.htm
