"I
was struck by the variety of angles, and how you managed to catch key moments
by being in the right place at the right time.

"Having
just completed a film project in Burkina Faso with Mayyasa, I would warmly recommend
her to anyone looking for a film maker with empathy and insight. She remains calm
in all situations, and works with a diligent and professional attitude.

“We
use the video all the time! It’s fantastic! It’s our main marketing
tool and we also use it for training purposes. We show it to everyone from the
local authority to planning students. Everyone loves it. It’s color and
dynamism brilliantly convey the ethos of our project.
Mayyasa
made a potentially dull subject into a fun and engaging video, which was on time
and on budget as well! She has an eye for good material and her relaxed style
brings out the best in the people she videos.“

" Mayyasas unobtrusive
style of camera-work, founded on sensitivity to the technical, aesthetic and political
issues associated with the medium, helped to demystify this largely male-dominated
technology. The process of being filmed, then viewing the rushes, was in itself
validation for women generally denied access to broadcast media. It seemed to
increase the personal sense of self-worth of individual women and, importantly,
to help to affirm and reinforce the nascent collective identity of the group.
Mayyasa experimented to find techniques appropriate to the emerging culture of
our camp, thus enhancing the atmosphere of safety by affording women increased
opportunities for self-definition and self-representation.
The video chronicle is valuable
in that it achieves a more comprehensive and more objective record of events than
could a written account, audio tapes, photos etc. It is useful not only as a souvenir
but also as an evaluation aid and potentially as a promotional tool.
We
would very much hope to be able to work with Mayyasa again in the future, and
would have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone planning a similar venture.

."Mayyasa
is a warm and friendly person of great sensitivity and creativity. These qualities
show in her work; she manages to be unobtrusive but present whilst filming, uses
the camera imaginatively and is supportive to those she works with. Her camera
work and pictures are of consistently high quality.
Last
year we worked together on Soya Suzie and the Gene Dictators
a participatory opera about genetic engineering and Earthsong,
an environmental arts project with primary schools. Mayyasas films of these
projects, as well as being lovely to watch are proving an invaluable means of
communicating ideas about our work to potential partners and funders. Mayyasa
is an asset to any project involving film and I would recommend her without hesitation.
